Glad to hear it, just FYI, you can also run the tool from the command line without need to go through edit book first, like this
calibre-debug.exe --diff -- file1.epub file2.epub Last edited by kovidgoyal; 06-17-2014 at 02:08 AM. |

I agree. Something I searched for long time and now in Calibre better as I ever had imagined. What a wonderful surprise.
Well done, Kovid. |

One of the first things I did discover that "smarten punctuation" also implicitly did a "Fix HTML", never expected that.

It has to, as it works partly on the parsed representation of the HTML.

Just to improve the manual: in the chapter on comparing E-books, the word "compare" is misspelled several times.
There is also something wrong with this sentence: You can create a checkpoint via:guilabel:Edit->Create checkpoint. Last edited by DrChiper; 01-31-2014 at 05:26 AM. |

Thanks, fixed. There is something about the word compare that causes me to mis-type it a lot.

Well as long as you make consistent mistakes, no problems
And now re-reading the info about the tools, the by-effects were indeed neatly mentioned, so I am solely to be blamed for having missed them. I do however have one question: one of my style settings recently failed and I could not find the problem right away as even check book did found everything ok. Finally it turned out that somewhere in the text I had typed <P> (in capital), while the stylesheet setting was <p> (lowercase). My trusty T1 ignored therefore the setting with a funny result. These kind of errors can make you mad before finding them. Is it possible that check book signals that there is a capitalization mismatch between stylesheet and text? The manual says " When you open the comparison tool from withing (sic) the editor, you can also double click on a line in the right panel to go to that line in the editor automatically." However when I do this (comparing two versions after beautifying files within the editor) it takes me to the Editor but does not open the appropriate file within the book nor transfer to the matched line.

Indeed, it opens just the very first compared file.
Even right click on another file name and issuing "open file in the editor" just uses persistently the first file. |

@Divingduck: That's an interesting error, I have fixed it, but I'd like to see what books caused it.
