As I've told you, I don't get the need. I only can guess that you're talking about an automated edition, where you would use it. But I don't use automated edition, so...

But as a rule, they are things which are understandably useful. Maybe not all the time -- but you can understand why certain people find it useful. Beyond that, the plugin infrastructure allows you to fundamentally change the way calibre works. Things like FanFicFare, OverDrive Link, KindleUnpack, all are very useful indeed. But none of them stand a chance of being part of calibre's core. And even calibre tries to avoid feature creep. Now, using regex to bulk edit filenames is something that I don't understand the why of. Perhaps if you weren't so resistant to explaining how you would use it, we might understand why you think it is useful. Do note, that nothing I or anyone else so far in this thread say, actually matters. We don't own calibre -- only @kovidgoyal's opinion matters, and he hasn't spoken up in this thread. EDIT: Yes he did, while I was typing this. We are just curious. And maybe, if we could be convinced of the usefulness, we could join you in asking for this. |

I could be wrong but the Op might be looking for a way to use headings as filenames.
So a regex to detect the chapter heading and then renaming the file accordingly. |

Yes, I thought of that, and if that's what the OP is after, I'll add a "me too". I do it manually now, so automating it would be handy.

That's not a regex. That requires full python integration, unless you mean to specifically whitelist an arbitrary set of possible renaming actions hooked into the full extent of the ebook container object.

While manual, calibre's bulk rename is flexible enough for the simple things I need
You don't need to select all the files, so if there's a multi-part division in the book, I can just process each piece. |
