Inconsistency between metadata in Calibre and on device
Hi everyone
Technical background: device - Kobo Aura; e-book management software - Calibre 2.0. Problem: Metadata shown in Calibre does not correlate to metadata on device. It does not occur always. Not for every book. Not for every piece of metadata in every book. I did all the things recommended by the forum: metadata management is set to automatic; ejected and reconnected and ejected again; Set Series information checkbox is checked. What happens: if I modify book's name, series, author - usually series get to device all right. The name of the author and the name of the book - not always so. I even hit the button in Device tab "update cached metadata in device" - no effect. The strange thing that when device is connected and Calibre shows the device tab, all the book names and authors match. What am I doing wrong??? |

You're doing absolutely nothing. It just doesn't work that way.
When you send a book to the device, calibre updates the book with the current metadata, the device reads book to get the metadata and stores it. When you connect, calibre matches the books on the device to the books in the library if it can. But, other than the series info, it doesn't update the metadata on the device. The metadata shown in the device list comes from the library if the book is in the library. Strictly, if you want to update the metadata on the device, you need to delete the book from the device and resend the book. But, it can be done using my Kobo Utilities plugin. Among other things, it has an option to do update the metadata on the device. And it will set more metadata than the device will read from the books. |

Thank you David
Could you possibly provide a link to your plug-in? Thank you again Maria |

Or you could also click on Preferences in Calibre, then Plugins under Advanced. Then click on Get New Plugins at the bottom. Just search for Kobo Utilities on the pop up window.

MariaS: hleo12 gives the best way to get the plugin. Or any other plugin. There is help available from most dialag. For discussion, see https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=215339.

Thank you all. Done and dusted. BTW, a little down arrow next to the Preferences tab in Calibre brings out option "Get Plug-ins to enhance Calibre". I'm sure people already know about it, but I just discovered it for myself
