Issue with footnote pop-up (epub3)
First, I love the version 5 viewer--getting ever better!
Now, the issue. As seen in the attachment, the note shows an additional line--repeated for every last note in each chapter. Cause: notes in this book are collected in an end-notes page, with a heading separating chapters, as in this code: Spoiler:
I tried replacing the original <h2> tags with <p>, with no effect: apparently the involved script uses next class="footnote" as boundary for 'footnote grabbing'... Thus, my question: is there any way out, barring removing chapter headings? Maybe <hr/> before each heading...? It would be simple to introduce (search & replace), and can be given 'display= none'. Thanks! |

The best way is to use the epub footnote markup to denote exactly what is a footnote.

Well, I think I have finally understood what was required--thanks to this thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...4&postcount=17 (much obliged, Doitsu)
As the page containing all the rear-notes was already identified as such through semantics, I have Converted each Code:
<p id="..." class="footnote"><a href="...">#</a>...</p> Code:
<aside id="..." epub:type="footnote"><p class="footnote"><a href="...">#</a>...</p></aside> Is there some cheat-sheet, or other usable reference containing such tips? W3C, Daisy, etc., seem directed chiefly to implementers of 'user agents'--tips for 'plain users' aren't so apparent... |

In the Amazon Kindle Publishing Guidelines there is a section about footnotes.
I am not expert but the solution indicated seems very similar to the one You have found Yourself ("aside" instead of "apart"). And for Kobo kobolabs/epub-spec on github talks about footnotes but they don't say too much, only the strong advice to use epub:type="footnote" |

there are plenty, just google epub footnotes, for instance the first match http://www.theheratik.net/books/tech...8/#:~:text=The ePub 3.,much easier to handle footnotes.&text=The content you link to,some other kind of note.

Thanks! The link is interesting...
Trouble with googling for 'special' information: I usually find the results 'localization-biased'--i.e., only pages in my local (not very useful on some topics) or very general content, like wikipedia or W3C. If there is more. it's very likely ten pages deep... Search engines are sometimes too 'smart & helpful', and I don't know enough to begin with to direct them better. Thanks again. |
