The library analogy is completely besides the point: Scribd is a file-sharing service and the subscription only gets you an easier download, just like some other file-sharing services give you faster speeds with a subscription. Also "pirate content" is legally an issue for the site that hosts it, even more than the uploader and dowloader. The downloader is least liable in any civil copyright action. But all irrelevant to physically being able to read a downloaded PDF and the remote deletion on a PC is impossible normally.
