The behaviour is also different for cover images. The Kobo Books plugin will fit the cover image to the maximum allowed by calibre so if calibre is set to allow a 2400x3600 maximum cover image size and the downloaded image was 1650x2200, the image returned will be 2400x3200. The Kobo Metadata plugin would give the original 1650x2200 image. See
